Chanel has always been a trailblazer in the fashion world, and this show is just another example of the brand’s commitment to innovation and inclusion.

This move is also representative of a larger trend of fashion brands paying more attention to Africa. The continent has been gaining more visibility in the fashion industry in recent years, with more and more designers and brands turning to Africa for inspiration. Africa is a continent with so much to offer the world, and we can’t wait to see what Chanel’s show will bring to the table.

The former Palace of Justice in Dakar was a breathtaking sight, with its sun-kissed gardens and columns that seemed to dance in perfect harmony. We're absolutely amazed by the 2022/23 Métiers d'Art CHANEL - DAKAR collection! It flawlessly captures the energy and life of the 1970s with silhouettes in bright colors and dreamy beaded and sequined embroidery. The textured tweed fabrics and floral motifs were the moment.

Created by Virginie Viard and produced by the CHANEL Prêt-à-porter ateliers in Paris and the Maisons d'Art , the 2022/23 Métiers d'Art CHANEL - DAKAR collection is the result of encounters between Virginie Viard and choreographers, directors, musicians, writers and friends of the Maison. The show is part of an extensive cultural program and the beginning of a sustainable exchange between CHANEL and Senegal.

Viard noted that the choice to have a deep and respectful dialogue over a few days is a remarkable one, particularly if we consider the colonial history between France and Senegal.
